Are you trying to be an expert in every area of your small business?

All experts will agree, if you want to be an expert, you need to be great at what you do. And for many, that’s meant having to make tough decisions over what to let go. Because an expert by definition, is someone who specialises in and is known for one specific thing – and you can’t do that if you’re insisting on doing everything alone.

If you’re a small business owner who’s looking to become an expert in your own right, it can be a tough lesson to master. You’re used to doing it all by yourself so it can be difficult outsourcing to someone else. But if you want your business to grow and want to become known as the person who is an expert in your niche, it’s a lesson you’re going to need to implement.

Know why you went into business

In order to grow, you need to learn to let go. If you want to make that a lot easier on yourself, remember why you originally went into business. What was it you wanted to do? What kind of service did you want to provide? How did you see yourself being, during your working day? It’s only by remembering why you went into business, you’ll be able to reconnect with whatever your expertise is.

Reconnect with that and see everything else as a distraction. If you want to thrive, you need to drop the need to be an expert in every area of your business, except the one you want to be known for.

Learn to work in your zone of genius, to be an expert

Your next step is to actually work in your zone of genius. Understand that you cannot continue to operate as a business owner, leader, personal assistant, and tech guru – if all you want to do is focus on your zone of expertise and enjoy what you’re good at!

So focus on that one thing. Learn what it means to work in your zone of genius and how that impacts positively on your business. Spend the bulk of your time improving your skills so you can be even better at what you do, and refuse to step outside of that zone of genius. Know that you’re honouring your commitment to your genius and to your business, by looking to be an expert in that one area of your business.

Outsource everything outside of your zone

But if you’re trying to be an expert in that one area, you’ll also appreciate the other areas of your business still need looking after. It just doesn’t have to be by you. Working with a Virtual PA who can handle your daily operations, will give you the freedom to do what you do best.

Outsourcing everything else to an Executive Assistant or Virtual PA will give you the online business support your business needs, no matter what industry sector you’re in. And you’ll understand how focusing your time on tasks only you can do and leaving everything else to a Virtual PA, will have a positive impact on your ROI and your business growth generally.
